1997 Wolf Dress Form Recovery

After Receiving a vintage dress form in poor condition, I decided it would be incredibly informative to explore the specific patterns required to make a form fitting cover. I worked to carefully deconstruct the original linen covering, taking note of measurements and princess panel locations. From the pieces, I extracted what information I could and translated them into a block of patterns.

From there, I used draping techniques to reconstruct areas of the cover that had degraded beyond comprehension, combining these patterns with the ones translated from the original cover. After multiple rounds of muslins and individual samples, the final cover was constructed with traditional Irish linen. Left open at the side seam, it was slipped onto the dress form and whip-stitched closed along the sides.

The cover was then stretched and stapled to the bottom, and ease stitching along with staples provided the tension necessary to keep the cover secure underneath the armscye plate. Finally, measurement pins were replaced in their original positions, and the horizontal balance waistband was applied.
